Impromptu Date Night

Friday night is our usual night out on the town- just me and the hubs.  Last weekend we were kind of running out of ideas for what to do.  We had a gift card to the gateway that Braedon found from when he was fifteen- get this- it still worked!  We knew we'd already started the night off right.  We headed to Happy Sumo for dinner and filled up on sushi and miso soup.  As we were leaving we heard some live music coming from an Art Gallery nearby.  We wandered inside and discovered that they were having a contest between all these new artists and they invited us to cast our vote!  We had fun walking around and eating the (free) cookies provided at the event.  Why did we not know about this guys??  With City Creek being so awesome, we kinda forgot about the Gateway.  After the winner was chosen and they started speeches, we snuck out and headed to barnes and noble.  It's sort of a problem- I could spend days in there!  And also a lot of money.  While we were walking back to our car we stopped at a gum ball station and laughed our heads off trying the most outrageous flavors of gum.  Plus Braedon almost chipped his tooth.

^^ Five gumballs later... ^^
Finally, we noticed this drink/candy shop on our way out and headed in to purchase a little dessert (I guess you could say I have a sweet tooth -_-).  Little did we know we had hit the jackpot!  This place had over 500 different flavors of sodas, and
tons of old school/ new school (?) candy!  We left with some spearmint flavored root beer and vintage squirt + sour spaghetti (and a layer of fuzz on our teeth).  I was a happy girl (besides the sugar fuzz).

^^ Anybody up for some sweet corn & bacon soda?? ^^

What we thought was going to be an ordinary night turned out to be just the opposite!  I love my spontaneous, up-for-anything husband.

// Burnt Cookies //Redbox // 15 months

This weekend for date night Braedon and I decided to do the typical- dinner out and a redbox.  We headed to the store after we ate and picked up those ready to bake cookies, you know, the ones you just break off and eat..uhh I mean bake first.  Braedon and I battle it out each time we get a red box- we can usually agree on the movie but the wagers begin when we decide who has to actually get out of the toasty car and brave the bitter seconds minutes waiting for the movie to pop out.  Well, this time, I came out on top and happily waited in the car.  However, when Braedon climbed back inside he was wearing a mischievous grin...he proceeded to tell me he had signed me up for every single email offer, promotion, newsletter, you name it.  I woke up to this.

Can't wait to see how many more emails I'll get. Thanks babe- this means war.  In case you were wondering, we rented White House Down.  We weren't sure whether to laugh or to cry....it was painfully cheesy yet somehow still sort of good?  I don't know, maybe it was just Channing Tatum.  Oh, and yes, the "self proclaimed food blogger" burned the chocolate chip cookies.  I mean- who messes up store bought cookie dough cookies?  Believe me, it can be done.  Flat as can be and charred as ever.  I guess it just went right along with the theme of the night and only made the cheesy movie even funnier.  We just couldn't win.

mmm. crunchy.
Saturday we were asked to help out with a photography workshop put on by Jessica Janae and Jared Fadel.  Both of them were amazing, they make a great team and you guys should check them out- especially you love-birds looking for wedding photographers/videographers!  We are slowly getting back the pictures and it's been fun to see what each photographer shot.  Plus I didn't mind cuddling up to Braedon and acting all newly engaged again! We had so much fun, I'll keep posting pictures as we get them.

It was raining/snowing during pictures so we were both pretty chilled after the shoot! The kind of cold that you don't feel like you'll warm up until you take a hot shower.  I settled for snuggling on the couch and listening to my babe of a husband play the piano/ sing.  Hope our kids pick up on that talent! Some videos for your listening pleasure...

Saturday night we went to some family friend's (The Loeffler's) and had a game night.  We laughed our heads off playing balderdash and a homemade version of jeopardy/ who wants to be a millionaire!  I even won a gift card to Tsunami plus three whole dollars!  That'll take care of my diet coke runs for the next few days.

I'm impressed if I kept your attention for this long of a post.  Thanks for reading and don't forget to enter the NS Minerals Giveaway!  Today is the last day! Oh ya, and happy 15 months (yesterday) Braed!

Our Weekend

Since Braedon has been volunteering for the U-fit program every Friday, it kind of puts a little kink in our normal date night routine.  Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful for a selfless husband who is willing to give up his Friday night, teaching sports to kids with disabilities, but I definitely miss spending the time with him!  He did a good thing and surprised me with tickets to see Thor, (I know I'm a nerd and wanted to see it so bad!).  By the way, it was awesome.  When we got home we set up our tent we won from Vivint and decided to have a campout in the basement-Murdock style.  Complete with a mattress and lots of blankets and pillows.

This tent is unreal.  I think we could fit a family of eight!  Saturday night we got to go to the LDS conference center for a musical performance.  President Monson even attended!  Everyone was chatting and when he walked in the room fell in a hush as everyone stood- it was amazing!  I have a hard time not getting choked up.  You can just feel the spirit testifying that he is our true and living prophet!  My favorite performer of the night was 11 year old Lexi Walker.  She stole the show!  Below is a video of her singing the National Anthem at the Real game.

She is incredible right??

As if our weekend couldn't have been better, we had our Primary Program at church on Sunday.  Probably my favorite sacrament meeting!  All the sunbeams (the youngest children in primary) were lined up at the front of the stand to sing "Jesus Wants Me For a Sunbeam".  They were belting out their little hearts, and trying so hard to be reverent at the same time.  Three boys were crowded around the microphone and in between "jesus wants me for a sun....." we hear, "ugh stop pushing me!", "stop touching me!" right into the microphone! Braedon and I couldn't keep it together.  We were shaking we were laughing so hard.  The little trickster finally got in front of the microphone and made sure to finish the song with "I'll be a sunbeam for HIIIIIIMMMMM" (loud breathing).  It was so cute.

My favorite song the Primary sang is called "A Child's Prayer"...

Heavenly Father, are you really there?
And do you hear and answer every child's prayer?
Some say that Heaven is far away...
But I feel it close around me as I pray
Heavenly Father, I remember now
Something that Jesus told disciples long ago
Suffer the children to come to me
Father in prayer I'm coming now to thee...

I sang this song with my sister and my cousins at my Aunt Carrie's funeral 15 years ago- but every time I hear it all of those feelings come rushing back! Carrie died in a car accident at a young age.  I was sobbing like a baby.  Braedon was probably a little embarrassed but gently put his arm around me, held me close, and let me get mascara all over his shirt.
