My Valentine

I've gotten a little behind on blogging (wish I had a dollar for every time I read that).  So yep, I'm gonna bore you all with another sappy Valentines post.  It was a perfect three day weekend and had me really feeling spring fever.  Spring break can't come soon enough!!

Braedon and I really didn't have any big Valentine's plans this year (or so I thought).  He's a pretty dedicated guy and was committed to volunteering for the U-fit program which he participates in every Friday night.  They teach sports to kids with disabilities- I went with him once and it was the sweetest thing to watch him in that environment.

When Braedon got home late Friday night I surprised him with some Nutella, strawberries, and sparking cider.  (What's more romantic that Nutella right??)  Braedon was a sweetie and about a week before Valentines day told me he didn't want anything, and he had something he already got me which would put us over budget if I got him anything. The dork.  Seriously, I found a gem, and I don't deserve him!  If only I was a fraction as selfless and hardworking as Braed.

I came home from work the next day and the house was spotless, plus there were some fresh roses on the kitchen counter.  I don't care how cliche it is, I still love getting flowers every once in a while.  There is something so chivalrous about it!

But it doesn't end there! Braedon surprised me with tickets to go see Ballet West's Sleeping Beauty.  And guess what?  He even pretended to enjoy it while we were there.  It was so fun to get dressed up, eat a "fancy" dinner, and act sophisticated for the night.  Besides taking a selfie in the full length mirror I think we pulled it off pretty well.

So we had planned to go to Cheesecake Factory for dinner and thought we were beating the system by getting there at 5:00.  Apparently so did everyone else and there was a 2 hour wait.  A bit of a buzz kill and we were both pretty HANGRY at this point.  Our families and close friends know that if either of us are hungry, it's best to save conversation once theres some food in our hands.

I just couldn't resist.  Sorry for embarrassing you Braedon but these things need to be documented!

As if I didn't feel spoiled enough, I also got some pretty freakin cute nike's and a sports bra that I've been vying after for a while now.  Little did I know Braedon checks my Pinterest "wish list" on the regular.  Seriously, I don't deserve him.

Not having school the following Monday made us both giddy!!  We couldn't wait to plan what we wanted to do! We slept in, went to Sharon's cafe for breakfast (thank you for the arthersclerosis Sharon), and took the morning slow.  Then we decided to go steal my sister in law's dog, Gatsby, and go to the park to play.  We had a blast and it was definitely a good workout!  Made us both (mostly me) kind of dog hungry.

He's cute.  (Braedon).  (Ok and the dog).

After the park we explored Scheel's for the first time and shared some chili cheese fries to which Braedon expressed his gratitude that I wasn't afraid or too much of a "girly girl" to indulge in such a dish.  Should I be embarrassed? And why do I keep talking about food?? That night we went to dinner with my fam, and watched a movie when we got home.  My idea of a perfect day off.  Getting back to real life was a bit of a pain and we can't wait for another break in March!!  Spring break get here already!!

California Getaway

A couple weeks ago Braedon did a good thing.  He told me I should go to Cali to visit my sister and her cute kids, and on the plus side get out of freezing cold Utah.  I convinced my sister Sara to join us too, and we made it a party. It was perfect timing because my parents were going to visit my aunt and uncle who are serving a mission in Coronado.  It was the perfect amount of time and just almost enough sun to hold me over until spring break.

Some highlights of the trip....

...starting a good book...
...drawing kitty faces on my niece Lexi...
...being silly at dinner...
...spoiling Lex and Colton with trips to the gas station for treats...
...snuggling on the couch...
...visiting the beach...
...tail running outside in a tank and not freezing...
..painting our nails in the hot tub...
...wanting to cry during a spinning class with my sister...
...whale watching...
...a little shopping, a lot of ice cream..
...laying out in the (sort of) warm sun...

I already can't wait to go back.  Lexi told me I have to bring Braedon next time though.  She kept wanting to FaceTime him while I was there and I think she might have just a little teensy tiny crush.  Its ok Lex, I have a crush on Braedon too!

After we took this picture Lex decided she needed kitty ears too, so we had to add that to the mix ;)

We got to celebrate Missy and Colton's birthdays, and ate lots of dessert.  Sorry for the blurry pictures, we were singing happy birthday and there was lots of laughing!

We even saw a whale!  Woo! Woo!

I'm so grateful Braedon sent me to go party with my fam, even though he couldn't come.  The boy just works too darn hard and can't miss a day of school.  I'm so grateful for him and his dedication.  When he sets his mind to something, he gets it done!  I saw this when we were dating and he started his very own window washing business pane and simple, which I later found out was a way for him to save some moo-lah for my engagement ring.  As we speak he's hunkered down in the office studying/ solving world problems through a little evil class called physics 2.
Love you sweetie.

I have lots to catch up on this here thing called my blog.  Be excited for a sappy Valentines Day post, and all the wonderful things we've been up to lately.

Our Engagement

Two years ago (tomorrow) Braedon and I were getting engaged.  I've been wanting an accurate documentation of this day and have put off journaling it for all this time so I figured I'd better finally have it written down somewhere!

Early Saturday morning on February 11th, 2012 we went snowboarding for a half day and had a blast.

As we were driving down the canyon I started feeling sick, but I figured it was just motion sickness combined with being tired.  Braedon dropped me off and I was ready for a nap!  When I woke up I was so sick- throwing up- you know, eh hem, the good stuff.  Braedon had told me we had an appointment to go look at rings (again) that night and I was thinking there was no way I was leaving the house!  I texted him to tell him I was sick and asked if we could just lay low and watch a movie.   He just kept telling me to take some medicine and keep resting because we HAD to make this appointment.

My parents came up to my room and told me they were leaving and to have a fun night.  They don't usually give me their itinerary for the night but I figured they were just checking on me cause I was sick.  I remember getting ready and my sister Emily was asking me what Braedon and I were doing that night with such a goofy smile on her face- still, I didn't catch on.

Braedon picked me up in his Dad's car and we started driving downtown.  His dad called him and said he had left his cell phone at work and asked if we could go pick it up on our way to our "appointment". Since we had his car and his access card was in it, plus we were going downtown, it just made sense.  Little did I know, this was all staged.

We get to the Wells Fargo building and take the elevator to the 23rd floor.  I said something like, "Wow, your dad's office is really high up here".  Braedon just nodded.  We walked into this huge room that apparently used to be used for parties.  It had an amazing view of the valley, and there was a table set up with candles, roses, and dinner in the center of the room.

Me: (in my head: we're getting engaged tonight!!!)

Braedon: I just wanted to do something nice for you for Valentines day, especially cause I haven't talked to your Dad yet about getting married and I know you're really excited to get engaged.

Me: (in my head: dangit.  oh well, this is a pretty awesome Valentine's gift)

I really didn't have much of an appetite, still felt pretty sick, but Braedon turned on some music and we danced for a while and then ate dinner.

Then he pulled out this poem called "23 reasons" that he had written for me.  We have it saved, but Braedon would probably kill me if I shared it. One line I remember went something like this,

17: the number of times in a day you tell me, "I fell".

So true.

I reached for a fortune cookie and Braedon jumped right in.... WAIT!  I get to open mine first.  Um... ok?  He opened it and made up some weird fortune cookie (every single one had "Will You Marry Me?" written inside) while walking over to the music that was playing.  I guess he had the ring hidden behind the speakers.  So I opened mine and....

You know how the rest goes.

Since Braedon knew it would be really dark in the room, he had engineered this LED light in the ring box so I could actually see the ring.  He kept telling me to put it on but I was hugging him and crying and just so excited!

Little did I know our parents were actually downstairs in Kelly's office eating their own dinner, and they came up to celebrate with us after.  Explains why my parents were being so weird earlier.  We had red velvet cake, and Martinelli's! I loved having them around to celebrate right away.

Madi was hiding in the room the whole time and filmed the event.  It's kind of hard to see since it was so dark but you can hear Braedon and it's super cute.

I usually catch on to surprises and it's become kind of a game for Braedon to truly "surprise" me.  I blame it on being sick- probably a good thing so I didn't ruin it!

Once everyone left Braedon and I were just snuggling, spreading the news, overlooking the city, and enjoying the sound of "fiancĂ©".  Next thing we knew there were fireworks going off literally right below us, and popping right at eye level.

Me: You did this too???
Braedon: I wish!

Apparently it was the 10th anniversary of the Olympics and the Gallivan Center, which is right next to the Wells Fargo building, had put on a firework show.  We like to pretend it was really just for us.  Safe to say it was the best fake Valentine's present I've ever gotten!

The rest of our story to be continued....

My F316 Girls

I figure my life long friends deserved a little shout out.  Get prepared for a novel.  Through our freshman year of college, from break-ups, to missions, to engagements, and marriages, we've been able to pick up right where we left off each time we meet up.  As we've gotten older we've discussed changing out monthly dinners from Chili's to a more "grown up" establishment, but it just doesn't feel right.  Chili's is where we all bonded for the first time!

Evolution of the Chili's dinners.... (not all are pictured)

All grown up, married, engaged, and freshly off missions.

Despite all the years, we can probably all agree that nothing has really changed.

These girls are my friends for life.  I wasn't really sure where I wanted to go to college and didn't really  have a plan after high school.  My dad encouraged me to try out for the UVU dance team and I figured, why not?  I ended up making the team, and convinced Taelor to move in to an apartment with me- with six other girls that we didn't know.  All we knew was that we would be getting put with other dancers from the team...which ended up being Whitney, and Micah.
I used to hate the term, "tender mercies", as cheesy as it may sound....this was a huge tender mercy.

Freshman year of college was a big year of change for me.  I had to decide who I wanted to be, and I where I wanted to go.  These girls were little missionaries to me without even knowing it.  The way they lived their lives and shared their testimonies through example helped me realize that I wanted that same happiness and confidence that they had.  We might have stayed up too late, too many times making pancakes, and gone to one too many dance parties, but the standards they upheld were a constant.

They've put up with my clumsiness and learned to embrace it....

We've danced together...

And waited in below 30 degree weather together just to watch the season premier of Twilight.  Plus Lyndsi tickled my back...

We've gone on trips together and they put up with my hangry-ness...

We learned to keep snacks on hand...

I had each and everyone of their support through getting engaged to getting married....and holler Tae is getting married this summer!!

We've celebrated farewells, and even better, homecomings...

It's safe to say, I love these girls...

Heres to 100 more years together.  P.S. you guys will get wrinkles first.
